Nonsense

I’m reading Crime and Punishment. Dostoyevsky is giving me some instructions about writing. Here’s a key one: talking nonsense is an honourable thing. This notion provides some comfort as I plow through the rubbish of my first draft in an attempt to move from the outline of a story to an actual story.

Big picture: I know that I can do this. I’ve done it before.

But sometimes I get bogged down in the process of telling a new story. So these words from Dostoyevsky are inspirational in their way: “It’s by talking nonsense that one gets to the truth”.
